Job Club
Job Readiness Program
The Job Readiness Program is a six-week program that provides comprehensive training in employment acquisition and retention for individuals who have obstacles to employment. For example, individuals returning from jail or prison, or individuals involved in rehabilitation for substance abuse may have difficulty finding a place in the labor force. This program provides participants with the requisite skills, practice, and encouragement to gain useful, valuable, stable employment. We also service low-income individuals who receive public assistance.
The strength-based, participant-focused curriculum includes the following:
- Assessment of consumer needs and goals
- Skill identification
- Networking tools and tips
- Completed master application
- Interview skill development
- Community contacts and professional resources
- Functional and chronological resume building
- Job search strategies and the hidden job market
- Strategies to overcome barriers
The job readiness curriculum includes a job readiness segment followed by a consumer-directed job search with staff support. Intensive post-employment monitoring and coaching can be provided on a case-by-case basis to help participants retain the jobs they have acquired.
We do work closely with other community agencies including area employers and businesses in the spirit of collaboration. As a result of this collaboration, Challenge became a GED site and there is a TST BOCES’ instructor assigned who teaches the GED Classes.
